Day by day we get closer to the full release of WordPress 2.9. Today WordPress released the 2nd round of its latest Beta. Join the fun, the download is now available.
The folks at WordPress have also ask that if you are continuing support for themes or plugins you’ve developed, that you ensure they work properly in WordPress 2.9 Beta 2.
Here are a few if the new features for developers and users included in the 2.9 Beta 2 release.

- comments meta table
- improved support for custom post types
- register_theme_directory() for additional theme locations
- back-ported JSON encode/decode for both PHP and JavaScript
Users
- oEmbed support
- “Trash” for posts, pages and comments
- post thumbnails support
- basic image editor
